Project Summary

JAI works with industry and education partners to motivate and inspire young people to see value in their education, and a future for themselves in the world of work. Energize is a five-module Science and Sustainability primary school programme for 11–12-year-olds, and will be supported by industry partner Gas Networks Ireland. It will be redeveloped, piloted, and evaluated by JAI and an expert team of advisors, replacing the Our World programme previously supported by Gas Networks.

Programme content will be co-created in collaboration with students, educators and expert advisers from industry and education. Each student will receive a workbook with extended learning opportunities for students and parents. Aimed at 6th class students in national and DEIS schools, this programme builds early understanding of science, sustainability, biodiversity, and renewables, while encouraging curiosity and awareness of STEM careers. Programmes are led by volunteer facilitators from 150 JAI supporting organisations, many of which are leaders in the STEM sector. Dynamic facilitation by business volunteers enhances learning underlining links between STEM education and the world of work.

Energize includes:

  • 6,000 students 2026/2027. Industry partner Gas Networks Ireland are funding the programme to the end of 2028 a further 3,000 students to participate that year
  • 255 business volunteers
  • 255 primary school classes

Each module will focus on a specific area of sustainability including an extended learning section with activities for students to educate their families and friends. Energize places specific emphasis on localities identified by SFI as in need of stem engagement.
